Nobukata ODA

He was a daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) who lived during the Edo period. The details are explained below.

He was a hatamoto (a direct retainer of the bakufu, which was a form of Japanese feudal government headed by a shogun) in the Edo period. He was an adopted son of Nobutada ODA. He was the father of Nobutoki ODA.

Nobukata ODA (February 9, 1712 - September 22, 1741) was the seventh lord of the Yanagimoto clan in Yamato Province. He was the seventh head of the Oda family (Naonaga line).

He was the third son of Nobukiyo ODA who was a hatamoto. His lawful wife was a daughter of Toyoyoshi HIJIKATA (Shunkoin). He had seven sons including Hidekata ODA (first son), Nagakata ODA (fourth son) and Nagatsune ODA (fifth son), and four daughters (Kyokusenin who became a lawful wife of Sadakiyo MATSUDAIRA, and so on). He was commonly called Kichijiro or Kenmotsu. He held the office of Governor of Shimotsuke Province and rose to the rank of Jugoinoge (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade).

On February 9, 1712, he was born in Edo as the third son of Nobukiyo ODA who was a hatamoto possessing territories yielding 300 koku (approximately 83.4 cubic meters of crop yields) in Yamato Province. He was born in a branch of the Oda family ruling the Uda-Matsuyama domain. On September 11, 1726, he succeeded to the family headship as a son adopted by Hideyuki ODA on his deathbed, who was the former lord of the domain. On September 13 of the same year, he had an audience with Shogun Yoshimune TOKUGAWA. On January 7, 1727, he was appointed to the Governor of Shimotsuke Province and was conferred to the Jugoinoge (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade). On June 8, 1733, he visited the ruins of Azuch-jo Castle where Nobunaga ODA had resided. On June 12, 1736, he was appointed to Sunpu-kaban (a post to guard Sunpu-jo Castle). On September 22, 1741, he died at the age of 31.
